Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Clears heat from the nutritive level and cools the blood
  • Nourishes the yin and vents heat outward

Indications

Heat entering the ying level in warm disease: high fever worse at night, irritability and insomnia, faint rashes, a scarlet dry tongue, and possibly delirium.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: deep red (scarlet) and dry. Pulse: thin and rapid.

Modifications

With marked rashes or bleeding, move to blood-cooling formulas.

Cautions & Contraindications

Use Shui Niu Jiao in place of rhinoceros horn. For ying-level heat in warm disease.
