Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Clears heat from the blood level and resolves toxicity
  • Cools and nourishes the blood; dispels stasis

Indications

Heat entering the blood: high fever, dark purple rashes, reckless bleeding (vomiting/coughing of blood, nosebleed, blood in stool/urine), and delirium with a scarlet tongue.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: deep red (scarlet). Pulse: rapid.

Modifications

Use Shui Niu Jiao (rhinoceros is protected). With marked toxicity, add heat-clearing toxin herbs.

Cautions & Contraindications

For blood-level heat; not for deficiency-cold bleeding.
