Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Generates fluids and moistens dryness
  • Gently drains heat and unblocks the bowels

Indications

Heat with fluid depletion: constipation with hard dry stools, a dry mouth and tongue, and a low-grade fever, especially after a warm febrile disease (‘not enough water to float the ship’).

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: dry, with a yellow coat. Pulse: thin and rapid (or deep).

Modifications

For pure dryness without heat-excess, use Zeng Ye Tang alone.

Cautions & Contraindications

For heat with fluid deficiency; use the purgatives briefly.
