Indications

Constipation, especially with heat; and to clear the bowels before procedures.

Dosage

1.5-6 g (small dose for mild effect), steeped in hot water or added near the end.

Common Combinations

Often used alone, or with a little Sheng Jiang to reduce cramping.

Cautions & Contraindications

Contraindicated in pregnancy, nursing and menstruation; avoid long-term use (habituation, cramping).
