Gui Zhi Ren Shen Tang (桂枝人參湯) warms and tonifies the middle burner (Li Zhong Tang with Gui Zhi) while releasing a lingering exterior; for middle-burner deficiency-cold with a persistent exterior and diarrhoea.

Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Warms and tonifies the middle burner

Indications

Middle deficiency-cold with a lingering exterior: persistent diarrhoea with undigested food, epigastric focal distension, and ongoing chills, fever and body aches.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: pale with a white coat. Pulse: deep and weak (or floating).

Modifications

Add Fu Zi for marked yang deficiency.

Cautions & Contraindications

For middle cold with exterior; not for damp-heat diarrhoea.
