  • Gua Lou – chief; Xie Bai (unblock chest yang)
  • with white wine (bai jiu)

Indications

Chest painful obstruction from phlegm and yang obstruction: chest pain or oppression that may radiate to the back, shortness of breath, cough and wheezing.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: white greasy coat. Pulse: deep, wiry or tight.

Modifications

Add Ban Xia (Gua Lou Xie Bai Ban Xia Tang) when phlegm is more pronounced.

Cautions & Contraindications

For phlegm/yang-obstruction chest bi; identify and manage cardiac causes medically.
