Di Yu (地榆), the root of Sanguisorba, cools the blood and stops bleeding, with a particular action on the lower burner (bloody stool, haemorrhoids, uterine bleeding), and is applied topically for burns and weeping sores.

  • Cools the blood and stops bleeding (especially of the lower body)
  • Reduces swelling and promotes healing (burns, sores) topically

Indications

Bloody stool and haemorrhoidal bleeding, bloody dysentery and uterine bleeding from heat; and burns and weeping skin lesions (topical).

Dosage

9-15 g in decoction; external use as needed.

Common Combinations

With Huai Hua for bloody stool and haemorrhoids.

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid in bleeding from cold/deficiency and in large topical burns (absorption).
