Tou Nong San (透膿散) tonifies the qi and blood and invigorates the blood to expel pus; for sores and abscesses that, owing to deficiency, fail to come to a head, discharge or heal.

Ingredients

  • Huang Qi (tonify qi) – chief; Dang Gui, Chuan Xiong (nourish/invigorate blood)
  • Chuan Shan Jia (substitute), Zao Jiao Ci (expel pus/penetrate)

Indications

Sores from deficiency: abscesses that are slow to come to a head or discharge, with a pale surround and dull pain, in a depleted patient.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: pale. Pulse: weak.

Modifications

Use a sustainable substitute for Chuan Shan Jia (pangolin is protected).

Cautions & Contraindications

For deficiency-type sores needing support; not for early-stage excess toxic sores.
