Ingredients

  • Bai Fu Zi, Jiang Can, Quan Xie (dispel wind-phlegm, stop spasm)
  • taken with warm wine

Actions & Functions

  • Dispels wind and transforms wind-phlegm
  • Unblocks the channels of the face and stops spasm

Indications

Wind-phlegm in the facial channels: sudden facial paralysis with a deviated mouth and eye, facial numbness, and possibly twitching (Bell’s palsy).

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: white greasy coat. Pulse: floating, wiry or slippery.

Modifications

Often combined with channel-opening and blood-moving herbs.

Cautions & Contraindications

Contains mildly toxic herbs (Bai Fu Zi, Quan Xie) - use correct dose; caution in pregnancy and yin-deficiency wind.
