Major Construct the Middle Decoction

Jin Gui Yao Lue, c. 220 CE

• Chuan Jiao (Shu Jiao) & Gan Jiang (warm/disperse cold) – chief
• Ren Shen; with Yi Tang (malt sugar)

• Warms and strongly disperses cold from the middle burner
• Tonifies and relieves severe cold abdominal pain

Severe middle-burner deficiency-cold: intense abdominal pain that may be visibly peristaltic, cold limbs, vomiting, an inability to eat, and possibly a palpable cold lump.

Tongue: pale with a white slippery coat. Pulse: deep, tight and thin.

For milder middle cold, use Xiao Jian Zhong Tang.

Very warming; for severe cold only, not heat or yin deficiency.
