Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Vigorously purges heat accumulation and unblocks the bowels

Indications

Yang-ming organ excess: constipation, abdominal fullness and pain that resists pressure, tidal fever, delirium and profuse sweating.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: thick, dry yellow (or black, prickly) coat. Pulse: deep, excess and forceful.

Modifications

For milder cases use Xiao Cheng Qi Tang (omit Mang Xiao) or Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang (omit Zhi Shi/Hou Po).

Cautions & Contraindications

A strong purgative - contraindicated in pregnancy and in deficiency; stop once the bowels move.
