San Jiao 14 (SJ 14) Jian Liao 肩髎 — Shoulder Bone-Hole

Location

On the shoulder, posterior and inferior to the acromion, in the depression formed posterior to LI-15 when the arm is abducted.

Anatomy

Posterior to the shoulder joint, in the deltoid; the posterior circumflex humeral artery; the axillary nerve.

  • Activates the channel and benefits the shoulder
  • Dispels wind and damp

Indications

Pain, heaviness and motor impairment of the shoulder and arm, and hemiplegia.

Needling

0.8-1.5 cun, perpendicular or oblique insertion towards the elbow.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With LI-15 and SI-9 for shoulder disorders.
