Kidney 5 (KI 5) Shui Quan — Water Spring

This is the Xi-Cleft point of the Kidney channel. It regulates menstruation, invigorates blood and benefits urination, and is used for dysmenorrhoea and amenorrhoea.

Kidney 5 (KI 5) Shui Quan 水泉 — Water Spring

Location

On the medial aspect of the foot, 1 cun inferior to KI-3, in the depression anterior to the medial side of the calcaneal tuberosity.

Anatomy

On the medial calcaneus; the medial calcaneal branch of the posterior tibial artery; the medial calcaneal branches of the tibial nerve.

Indications

Amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea, irregular menstruation, prolapse of the uterus, and difficult urination.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With SP-8 and SP-6 for dysmenorrhoea.
