Gu Chong Tang (固沖湯) tonifies the qi and the Spleen and astringes the Chong (penetrating) vessel to stop bleeding; for severe uterine bleeding from Spleen qi deficiency failing to hold the blood.

Ingredients

Actions & Functions

  • Tonifies the qi and Spleen and stabilises the Chong vessel
  • Astringes and stops bleeding

Indications

Spleen qi deficiency not holding the blood: heavy uterine bleeding or flooding and trickling, pale and watery blood, palpitations, shortness of breath and fatigue.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: pale. Pulse: thin and weak (or large and weak).

Modifications

With marked cold, add Pao Jiang; for chronic cases, follow with qi-and-blood tonics.

Cautions & Contraindications

For deficiency bleeding; not for bleeding from blood heat or stasis.
