- Shu Di Huang – chief
- Shan Zhu Yu, Shan Yao (tonify); Ze Xie, Mu Dan Pi, Fu Ling (drain)
- Gui Zhi (or Rou Gui) & Fu Zi (warm yang)

Indications
Kidney yang deficiency: cold and weak lower back and legs, cold limbs, frequent or scanty urination, oedema, impotence, and chronic wheezing.
Tongue & Pulse
Tongue: pale, swollen, with a white coat. Pulse: deep and weak, especially at the proximal (chi) position.
Modifications
Add Niu Xi and Che Qian Zi (Ji Sheng Shen Qi Wan) for marked oedema.
Cautions & Contraindications
Not for yin deficiency with heat; use with caution in damp-heat.
