Bladder 28 (BL 28) Pang Guang Shu — Bladder Shu

This is the Back-Shu point of the Bladder. It regulates the bladder, resolves damp-heat in the lower burner and benefits urination and the lumbosacral region.

Bladder 28 (BL 28) Pang Guang Shu 膀胱俞 — Bladder Shu

Location

On the sacrum, 1.5 cun lateral to the midline, level with the second posterior sacral foramen (S2).

Anatomy

On the erector spinae and gluteus maximus; the lateral sacral artery; the dorsal rami of the sacral nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Regulates the bladder and benefits urination (Back-Shu of the Bladder)
  • Resolves damp-heat in the lower burner
  • Benefits the lumbosacral region

Indications

Retention or difficult and painful urination, enuresis, cystitis, diarrhoea and constipation, and lumbosacral pain and stiffness.

Needling

0.8-1.2 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With REN-3 (its Front-Mu) for the bladder; with BL-23 for the lower back.
