Lung 4 (LU 4) Xia Bai — Guarding White

This point, descends Lung qi and regulates the heart and chest, and is used for cough and fullness of the chest.

Lung 4 (LU 4) Xia Bai 俠白 — Guarding White

Location

On the anterolateral aspect of the upper arm, 4 cun inferior to the anterior axillary fold (1 cun inferior to LU-3), on the radial side of the biceps brachii muscle.

Anatomy

Biceps brachii muscle; the cephalic vein and branches of the brachial artery; the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve and the musculocutaneous nerve.

Indications

Cough, asthma, fullness and oppression of the chest, and pain of the inner arm.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

With LU-1 for cough and chest oppression.

Indicated in the classical literature for fullness of the chest and cardiac discomfort with rebellious qi.

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid the brachial artery.
