Location
On the anterior aspect of the elbow, at the cubital crease, in the depression on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon.
Anatomy
Brachioradialis muscle and the biceps brachii tendon; the radial recurrent artery and cephalic vein; the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve and the radial nerve.
Actions & Functions
- Clears heat from the Lung
- Descends rebellious Lung qi
- Regulates the water passages
- Relaxes the sinews and benefits the elbow
Indications
Cough, asthma, haemoptysis, sore throat, fullness of the chest, pain and contraction of the elbow and arm, and acute vomiting and diarrhoea with sunstroke.
Needling
0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion; or prick to bleed for acute conditions.
Moxibustion Suitability
Suitable for moxibustion, though more often needled or bled given its heat-clearing action.
Point Combinations
With LU-1 for cough; with LU-6 for haemoptysis; bled with LU-10 for acute sore throat.
Classical Text References
The He-Sea (Water) point and the sedation point of the Lung, classically used to drain excess and Lung heat.
