Tai Zi Shen (Pseudostellariae Radix)

Tai Zi Shen (太子參), the root of Pseudostellaria heterophylla (‘prince ginseng’), gently tonifies the qi and generates fluids. It is much milder than Ren Shen and is suitable for children, the elderly and those who cannot tolerate stronger tonics.

Indications

Mild qi and yin deficiency, especially in children and weak patients, with fatigue, poor appetite, dry mouth and a dry cough.

Dosage

9-30 g in decoction.

Common Combinations

With Mai Men Dong and Wu Wei Zi for qi and yin deficiency of the Lung.

Cautions & Contraindications

Generally very gentle and well tolerated.
