Indications
Constipation from fluid depletion: dry, hard stools with no great abdominal fullness, a dry mouth and throat, and thirst, especially after a warm febrile disease.
Tongue & Pulse
Tongue: red and dry. Pulse: thin and slightly rapid (or weak).
Modifications
With heat and fullness, add Da Huang and Mang Xiao (Zeng Ye Cheng Qi Tang).
Cautions & Contraindications
For dryness from fluid deficiency; not for constipation from excess heat alone or qi stagnation.
