Actions & Functions

  • Tonifies and raises the gathering (chest) qi

Indications

Sinking of the chest qi: shortness of breath as if unable to catch the breath, a sensation of the breath not connecting, fatigue, palpitations, and a weak, sometimes irregular pulse.

Tongue & Pulse

Tongue: pale. Pulse: weak and sunken (sometimes irregular).

Modifications

With marked qi-yin deficiency, add Ren Shen and Shan Zhu Yu.

Cautions & Contraindications

For sinking chest qi; not for fullness from excess or phlegm.
