Shuitu (ST-10), “Water Prominence”, on the neck, benefits the throat and descends rebellious Lung qi.

Location

On the neck, on the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, midway between ST-9 and ST-11.

Anatomy

On the anterior border of sternocleidomastoid; the superior thyroid artery; the cutaneous cervical nerve and, deep, the sympathetic trunk.

  • Descends rebellious qi and relieves cough and asthma

Indications

Sore throat, cough and asthma, and goitre.

Needling

0.3-0.4 cun, perpendicular insertion, avoiding the vessels.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion may be used with caution.

Point Combinations

With ST-9 and CV-22 for throat disorders and goitre.

Classical Text References

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid the carotid artery and thyroid vessels.
