Conception Vessel 3 (REN 3) Zhong Ji — Central Pole

This is the Front-Mu (alarm) point of the Bladder. It is the principal point for bladder and urinary disorders, benefits the genitals and regulates the lower burner and uterus.

Conception Vessel 3 (REN 3) Zhong Ji 中極 — Central Pole

Location

On the lower abdomen, on the anterior midline, 4 cun inferior to the umbilicus (1 cun superior to the pubic symphysis).

Anatomy

On the linea alba; the inferior epigastric and external pudendal arteries; the iliohypogastric nerve.

Actions & Functions

  • Benefits the bladder and promotes urination (Front-Mu of the Bladder)
  • Resolves damp-heat in the lower burner
  • Benefits the uterus and regulates menstruation
  • Benefits the genitals and tonifies the Kidney

Indications

Retention or difficult and painful urination, cystitis, enuresis, irregular menstruation and dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea, infertility, and seminal emission.

Needling

0.5-1.2 cun, perpendicular insertion (empty the bladder first).

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With SP-6 and SP-9 for urinary and gynaecological disorders; with BL-28 (its Back-Shu) for the bladder.
