PC-6 Neiguan

Neiguan (PC-6), “Inner Pass”, is the Luo-Connecting point of the Pericardium and the Confluent point of the Yin Wei Mai. It is one of the most important points in acupuncture for the chest, Heart and stomach and the principal point for nausea and vomiting.

Location

On the palmar aspect of the forearm, 2 cun proximal to the wrist crease, between the tendons of palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis.

Anatomy

Between palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis, on flexor digitorum superficialis; the median artery and veins; the median nerve and antebrachial cutaneous nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Regulates Heart qi and calms the spirit
  • Unbinds the chest and regulates qi
  • Harmonises the Stomach and stops nausea and vomiting
  • Opens the Yin Wei Mai

Indications

Nausea and vomiting, cardiac pain and palpitations, oppression of the chest, anxiety and insomnia, hiccup, stomach pain, and motion sickness.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With ST-36 and REN-12 for nausea and vomiting; with HT-7 for anxiety and palpitations; with SP-4 (its paired Confluent point) for the chest and Heart.

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid the median nerve; deep insertion may produce a strong electric sensation.
