This is the Jing-River and Metal point of the Liver channel. It spreads Liver qi, clears the lower burner and benefits the genitals.

Liver 4 (LV 4) Zhong Feng 中封 — Middle Seal

Location

On the anterior aspect of the ankle, anterior to the medial malleolus, in the depression on the medial side of the tibialis anterior tendon.

Anatomy

Medial to the tibialis anterior tendon; the medial malleolar branches and the great saphenous vein; the medial branch of the superficial peroneal nerve and the saphenous nerve.

  • Spreads Liver qi and clears the lower burner
  • Benefits the genitals and treats hernia
  • Regulates urination

Indications

Hernia, genital pain and retracted testicles, difficult or painful urination, jaundice, and pain of the ankle.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With LV-1 and REN-6 for hernia; with LV-3 to spread Liver qi.
