BL-49 Yishe

Yishe (BL-49), “Abode of Thought (Yi)”, level with the Spleen Shu, strengthens the Spleen, resolves damp and supports the intellect (yi).

Location

On the back, 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra (T11), level with BL-20.

Anatomy

On the latissimus dorsi; the posterior intercostal artery; the dorsal rami of the thoracic nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Strengthens the Spleen and resolves damp
  • Harmonises the middle burner and supports the intellect (yi)

Indications

Abdominal distension, borborygmus and diarrhoea, jaundice, poor appetite, and pensiveness.

Needling

0.5-0.7 cun, oblique insertion towards the spine.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With BL-20 to strengthen the Spleen.

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid deep insertion towards the kidney; needle obliquely.
