Bladder 32 (BL 32) Ci Liao — Second Bone-Hole

This is the most clinically used of the eight liao points. It benefits the lower burner, regulates menstruation, promotes labour and relieves lumbosacral pain and sciatica.

Location

On the sacrum, in the second posterior sacral foramen (S2).

Anatomy

Over the second posterior sacral foramen; the lateral sacral artery; the dorsal ramus of the second sacral nerve.

  • Benefits the lower burner and the genitals
  • Regulates menstruation and promotes labour
  • Relieves lumbosacral pain and sciatica

Indications

Dysmenorrhoea and irregular menstruation, infertility, abnormal vaginal discharge, difficult urination, difficult labour, and lumbosacral pain and sciatica.

Needling

1.0-1.5 cun, perpendicular insertion into the foramen.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With SP-6 and REN-4 for dysmenorrhoea; with BL-23 and BL-40 for lumbosacral pain.
