Bladder 62 (BL 62) Shen Mai — Extending Vessel

This is the Confluent point of the Yang Qiao Mai. It benefits the eyes, calms the spirit, relieves neck and back stiffness and regulates sleep (excess in the Yang Qiao causes insomnia).

Location

On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression directly below the prominence of the lateral malleolus.

Anatomy

Below the lateral malleolus; the lateral malleolar arterial network; the sural nerve.

  • Opens and regulates the Yang Qiao Mai
  • Benefits the eyes and the head and neck
  • Calms the spirit and regulates sleep
  • Extinguishes interior wind

Indications

Headache and dizziness, stiff neck and back, insomnia (or excessive sleepiness), epilepsy, and eye disorders.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With SI-3 (its paired Confluent point) for the Du Mai, neck, back and epilepsy.
