Governing Vessel 12 (DU 12) Shen Zhu 身柱 — Body Pillar

Location

On the upper back, in the depression below the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra (T3).

Anatomy

On the supraspinous and interspinous ligaments; the third intercostal arterial branch; the medial branch of the dorsal ramus of the third thoracic nerve.

Indications

Cough and asthma, boils and skin sores, epilepsy and fright, weakness and failure to thrive in children, and back pain.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, oblique upward insertion.

Highly suitable - a classic moxibustion point for strengthening children and the Lung.

Point Combinations

With BL-13 for cough and asthma; moxa for childhood weakness.
