Location

On the face, anterior to the intertragic notch, in the depression posterior to the condyle of the mandible, found with the mouth open (below SI-19).

Anatomy

Anterior to the ear; the superficial temporal and auricular arteries; the great auricular and facial nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Benefits the ears and hearing
  • Benefits the jaw and teeth and dispels wind from the face

Indications

Tinnitus and deafness, otitis, toothache, facial paralysis, and dislocation or pain of the jaw.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion with the mouth open.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is generally not used on the face.

Point Combinations

With SJ-17 and SI-19 for ear disorders.
