Stomach 31 (ST 31) Bi Guan 髀關 — Thigh Gate

Location

On the anterior thigh, at the junction of a vertical line from the anterior superior iliac spine and the horizontal line level with the lower border of the pubic symphysis, in the depression lateral to sartorius.

Anatomy

Between sartorius and tensor fasciae latae, on rectus femoris; the lateral circumflex femoral artery; the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.

Indications

Pain, weakness, numbness and motor impairment of the hip, thigh and leg, and atrophy disorder (wei syndrome).

Needling

1.0-2.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With ST-32 and ST-36 for atrophy and weakness of the leg.
