Stomach 3 (ST 3) Ju Liao 巨髎 — Great Bone-Hole

Location

On the face, directly below the pupil, level with the lower border of the ala (wing) of the nose.

Anatomy

In levator labii superioris and zygomaticus; the facial and infraorbital arteries; the facial and infraorbital nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Dispels wind and benefits the face
  • Benefits the nose and eyes

Indications

Facial paralysis and twitching, swelling of the cheek and lips, toothache of the upper jaw, nasal obstruction and epistaxis, and eye disorders.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun perpendicular, or oblique/transverse for facial pain.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is generally not used on the face.

Point Combinations

With LI-4 and ST-2 for facial paralysis.
