This point, at the lateral end of the eyebrow, is a principal local point for eye disorders and temporal headache, and the last point of the Triple Burner channel.

San Jiao 23 (SJ 23) Si Zhu Kong 絲竹空 — Silk Bamboo Hollow

Location

On the face, in the depression at the lateral end of the eyebrow.

Anatomy

On the orbicularis oculi muscle; the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery and vein; the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve and the zygomaticofacial nerve.

  • Dispels wind and clears heat
  • Benefits the eyes
  • Stops pain (temporal headache) and calms the spirit

Indications

Headache, red and painful eyes, blurred vision, twitching of the eyelid, facial paralysis, and toothache.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, transverse insertion; do not use moxa.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is contraindicated at this point (near the eye).

Point Combinations

With Taiyang and GB-8 for temporal headache; with BL-2 for eye disorders and eyelid twitching.
