Spleen 4 (SP 4) Gong Sun — Grandfather Grandson

This is the Luo-Connecting point of the Spleen channel and the Confluent point of the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel). It strengthens the Spleen, harmonises the middle burner and regulates the Chong Mai for gynaecological and abdominal disorders.

Spleen 4 (SP 4) Gong Sun 公孫 — Grandfather Grandson

Location

On the medial border of the foot, in the depression distal and inferior to the base of the first metatarsal bone, at the border of the red and white skin.

Anatomy

On abductor hallucis; the medial plantar artery and the dorsal venous network; the saphenous nerve and the medial plantar nerve.

  • Calms the spirit and regulates the Heart and chest
  • Resolves dampness

Indications

Abdominal pain and distension, vomiting and diarrhoea, dysentery, gynaecological disorders, cardiac pain and oppression of the chest, and disorders of the Chong Mai.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With PC-6 (its paired Confluent point) for the Heart, chest and stomach; with REN-12 for epigastric disorders.
