Pericardium 4 (PC 4) Xi Men — Cleft Gate

This is the Xi-Cleft point of the Pericardium channel, reserved for acute cardiac pain, palpitations and bleeding.

Pericardium 4 (PC 4) Xi Men 郄門 — Cleft Gate

Location

On the palmar aspect of the forearm, 5 cun proximal to the wrist crease, between the tendons of palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis.

Anatomy

Between palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis, on flexor digitorum superficialis; the median artery and veins; the median nerve and medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve.

  • Stops bleeding and clears heat (Xi-cleft for acute and blood disorders)

Indications

Acute cardiac pain, palpitations, haemoptysis and haematemesis, epistaxis, and mental-emotional restlessness.

Needling

0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With PC-6 for acute cardiac pain; with LU-6 for haemoptysis.
