Daying (ST-5), “Great Welcome”, on the jaw, dispels wind and benefits the face, jaw and teeth.

Location

On the face, anterior to the angle of the mandible, on the anterior border of the masseter muscle, in the groove where the facial artery pulsates.

Anatomy

On the masseter; the facial artery and vein; the facial nerve and the buccal nerve.

Actions & Functions

  • Dispels wind and benefits the face and jaw
  • Activates the channel and stops pain

Indications

Facial paralysis and twitching, lockjaw (trismus), toothache, and swelling of the cheek and jaw.

Needling

0.2-0.3 cun, perpendicular insertion, avoiding the facial artery.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is generally not used on the face.

Point Combinations

With ST-6 and LI-4 for jaw and facial disorders.
