This point, beside the umbilicus, is the Front-Mu (alarm) point of the Large Intestine. It is the principal point for regulating the Intestines, treating both constipation and diarrhoea.
Location
On the abdomen, 2 cun lateral to the centre of the umbilicus.
Anatomy
On the rectus abdominis; the inferior epigastric artery and vein; the tenth intercostal nerve.
Actions & Functions
- Regulates the Intestines and the Stomach (Front-Mu of the Large Intestine)
- Resolves dampness and damp-heat
- Regulates qi and blood and benefits menstruation
Indications
Diarrhoea, dysentery and constipation, abdominal pain and distension, borborygmus, and irregular menstruation.
Needling
0.7-1.2 cun, perpendicular insertion.
Moxibustion Suitability
Suitable for moxibustion, classically used for chronic diarrhoea and cold.
Point Combinations
With ST-37 for diarrhoea and dysentery; with SJ-6 and ST-36 for constipation.
