Burong (ST-19), “Not Contained”, on the upper abdomen, harmonises the Stomach and descends rebellious qi.

Location

On the upper abdomen, 6 cun superior to the umbilicus, 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline.

Anatomy

On the rectus abdominis; the superior epigastric artery and the seventh intercostal artery; the seventh intercostal nerve.

Actions & Functions

  • Harmonises the Stomach and descends rebellious qi
  • Relieves food stagnation

Indications

Stomach pain, vomiting, abdominal distension, poor appetite, and acid regurgitation.

Needling

0.5-0.8 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion may be used.

Point Combinations

With CV-12 and ST-21 for stomach pain.

On the right, deep insertion risks the liver; needle to a moderate depth.
