SI-4 Wangu

Wangu (SI-4), “Wrist Bone”, is the Yuan-Source point of the Small Intestine channel. It resolves damp-heat, benefits the sinews and is used for jaundice and wrist disorders.

Location

On the ulnar border of the hand, in the depression between the base of the fifth metacarpal bone and the triquetral bone, at the border of the red and white skin.

Anatomy

On the abductor digiti minimi; the dorsal carpal branch of the ulnar artery; the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve.

  • Resolves damp-heat and benefits the gall bladder (jaundice)
  • Clears heat and benefits the sinews
  • Benefits the wrist and fingers

Indications

Jaundice, headache, stiff neck, tinnitus, febrile disease, diabetes (wasting and thirsting), and pain and contracture of the wrist and fingers.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With LV-3 and GB-34 for jaundice; with SI-3 for neck and wrist disorders.
