PC-1 Tianchi

Tianchi (PC-1), “Heavenly Pool”, on the lateral chest, unbinds the chest, regulates Heart and Lung qi and resolves phlegm nodules.

Location

On the chest, in the fourth intercostal space, 1 cun lateral to the nipple and 5 cun lateral to the anterior midline.

Anatomy

Pectoralis major and minor; the thoraco-acromial and lateral thoracic arteries; the fourth intercostal nerve and the medial and lateral pectoral nerves.

Actions & Functions

  • Unbinds the chest and regulates qi
  • Resolves phlegm and dissipates nodules
  • Activates the channel

Indications

Fullness and pain of the chest and costal region, cough, phlegm nodules and swelling of the axilla, and breast disorders.

Needling

0.1-0.3 cun oblique or transverse insertion laterally.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion may be used with caution.

Point Combinations

With PC-6 for chest oppression; with ST-40 to resolve phlegm.

Cautions & Contraindications

Deep perpendicular insertion risks pneumothorax. Needle obliquely or transversely only.
