Zhishi (BL-52), “Residence of the Will (Zhi)”, level with the Kidney Shu, tonifies the Kidney, benefits essence, strengthens the lower back and supports the will (zhi).
Location
On the lower back, 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra (L2), level with BL-23.
Anatomy
On the erector spinae and latissimus dorsi; the lumbar artery; the dorsal rami of the lumbar nerves.

Indications
Chronic lower back pain, seminal emission and impotence, difficult urination, oedema, and lack of will-power and fearfulness.
Needling
0.5-1.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Highly suitable - moxa tonifies and warms the Kidney.
Point Combinations
With BL-23 and KI-3 to tonify the Kidney and strengthen the lower back.
