Qian Shi (Euryales Semen)

Qian Shi (芡實), the seed of Euryale (fox nut), tonifies the Spleen and stops diarrhoea, tonifies the Kidney and secures the essence, and resolves dampness to stop vaginal discharge; similar to Lian Zi but more drying of damp.

Indications

Chronic diarrhoea from Spleen deficiency; seminal emission and frequent urination; and damp vaginal discharge.

Dosage

9-15 g in decoction.

Common Combinations

With Jin Ying Zi (Shui Lu Er Xian Dan) to secure essence; with Lian Zi and Shan Yao for diarrhoea.

Cautions & Contraindications

Use with caution in constipation and where there is no deficiency.
