Chuan Niu Xi (川牛膝), the root of Cyathula, invigorates the blood and dispels stasis more strongly than Huai Niu Xi, unblocks and benefits the joints, and directs downward; favoured for blood stasis and joint disorders of the lower body.

Indications

Blood stasis with amenorrhoea and masses; painful obstruction and weakness of the lower limbs; and difficult or bloody urination.

Dosage

6-15 g in decoction.

Common Combinations

With Du Huo and Sang Ji Sheng for painful obstruction of the legs.

Cautions & Contraindications

Contraindicated in pregnancy and heavy menstruation.
