Wu Zhu Yu (吳茱萸), the fruit of Evodia, warms and disperses cold to relieve pain (Liver and Stomach), descends rebellious qi to stop vomiting, acid regurgitation and headache, and warms the Spleen to stop diarrhoea.

Indications

Cold in the Liver channel with hernial and vertex headache; Stomach cold with vomiting and acid regurgitation; and daybreak diarrhoea from Spleen-Kidney yang deficiency.

Dosage

1.5-4.5 g in decoction.

Common Combinations

With Ren Shen and Sheng Jiang (Wu Zhu Yu Tang) for cold vomiting and headache; with Huang Lian (Zuo Jin Wan) for acid regurgitation.

Cautions & Contraindications

Hot, drying and slightly toxic - use in small doses; contraindicated in heat patterns and used with caution in pregnancy.
