Bei Sha Shen (北沙參), the root of Glehnia littoralis, nourishes the yin of the Lung and Stomach, clears Lung heat and generates fluids; used for dry cough and dryness after febrile disease.

Indications

Lung yin deficiency with a dry, unproductive cough; and Stomach yin deficiency with dry mouth and thirst, often after febrile disease.

Dosage

9-15 g in decoction.

Common Combinations

With Mai Men Dong and Yu Zhu to nourish Lung and Stomach yin.

Cautions & Contraindications

Avoid in cough from wind-cold or phlegm-damp. Classically incompatible with Li Lu.
