This point, on the buttock, activates the channel, benefits the lower burner and is a principal point for lumbosacral pain, hip pain and sciatica.

Bladder 54 (BL 54) Zhi Bian 秩邊 — Lowermost Edge

Location

On the buttock, 3 cun lateral to the midline, level with the fourth posterior sacral foramen (S4), level with BL-30.

Anatomy

On the gluteus maximus; the inferior gluteal artery; the inferior gluteal nerve and, deep, the sciatic nerve.

  • Activates the channel and relieves lumbosacral, hip and leg pain
  • Benefits the lower burner, bladder and anus

Indications

Lumbosacral and hip pain, sciatica and pain of the leg, difficult urination, haemorrhoids, and genital pain.

Needling

1.5-3.0 cun, perpendicular insertion.

Moxibustion Suitability

Suitable for moxibustion.

Point Combinations

With BL-40 and GB-30 for sciatica.
