This point, at the outer canthus, is a principal local point for eye disorders, dispelling wind and clearing heat.

Location

On the face, 0.5 cun lateral to the outer canthus of the eye, in the depression on the lateral border of the orbit.

Anatomy

On orbicularis oculi; the zygomatico-orbital artery; the zygomaticofacial and zygomaticotemporal nerves and the temporal branch of the facial nerve.

Actions & Functions

  • Dispels wind and clears heat
  • Benefits the eyes and brightens vision

Indications

Red, painful and watery eyes, blurred vision, early-stage cataract, headache, and facial paralysis.

Needling

0.3-0.5 cun, transverse insertion laterally; or prick to bleed.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is not used near the eye.

Point Combinations

With BL-2 and SJ-23 for eye disorders.
