Pericardium 9 (PC 9) Zhong Chong — Middle Surge

This is the Jing-Well and Wood point of the Pericardium channel. It restores consciousness, clears Heart heat and is a principal point for collapse and febrile disease.

Pericardium 9 (PC 9) Zhong Chong 中衝 — Middle Surge

Location

In the centre of the tip of the middle finger, approximately 0.1 cun proximal to the free edge of the nail (some traditions locate it at the radial nail corner).

Anatomy

The tip of the middle finger; the arterial and venous network of the fingertip; the palmar digital nerves of the median nerve.

  • Restores consciousness and opens the orifices
  • Clears heat from the Heart and Pericardium
  • Drains heat in febrile disease

Indications

Loss of consciousness and collapse, heat-stroke, febrile disease, cardiac pain, and childhood convulsions.

Needling

0.1 cun shallow insertion, or prick to bleed.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is generally not used; the point is most often bled.

Point Combinations

With DU-26 and the Jing-well points for loss of consciousness and heat-stroke.
