Lung 8 (LU 8) Jing Qu — Channel Gutter

This is the Jing-River and Metal point of the Lung channel. It descends and regulates Lung qi and is used for cough, asthma and sore throat.

Lung 8 (LU 8) Jing Qu 經渠 — Channel Gutter

Location

On the palmar aspect of the forearm, 1 cun proximal to the wrist crease, in the depression on the radial side of the radial artery, lateral to LU-9.

Anatomy

Between the radius and the radial artery; the radial artery and cephalic vein; the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve and the superficial radial nerve.

Actions & Functions

  • Descends and regulates rebellious Lung qi
  • Clears the Lung and benefits the throat

Indications

Cough, asthma, sore throat, oppression of the chest, and pain of the wrist.

Needling

0.1-0.3 cun, perpendicular insertion, avoiding the radial artery.

Moxibustion Suitability

Moxibustion is traditionally avoided at this point in some classical sources; gentle indirect moxa may be used with care.

Point Combinations

With LU-5 for cough; with LU-10 for sore throat.

Cautions & Contraindications

The radial artery lies immediately medial; needle shallowly on the radial side to avoid it.
